What If You Just Need A Slice of IT Service?

Silo IT is a form of IT services or support, usually as part of a Co-Managed IT relationship. The Internal IT folks of your organization might be doing a splendid job. They’re great, you love ‘em (but in a professionally appropriate way, of course).

But there’s this one slice of technology that…well, they just don't handle it. For whatever reason. It could be database servers, like Microsoft SQL or Oracle. Or Business Intelligence. Actively manage Backup and Disaster Recovery, including Business Continuity solutions. Cloud services, like MS 365, Azure or Amazon Web Services. Phone Systems. Mobile devices. Linux boxes, Macs. Stuff that you can easily create a…what’s the word I’m looking for…silo around.

You don’t have the need (or budget) to hire a full-time individual (or team) for this service. But you need it.

Some MSP’s can offer this slice of IT service, although they might call it something else. But I do recommend that when you talk to the MSP, you ask if they’re providing this style of service for other clients. And make sure they have the required expertise in the Siloed field. Unless you want them to learn this trade while supporting your organization.

I mean, what could go wrong with that<gulp>?
