Bob Celebrates One Year on CompTIA’s Channel Development Advisory Council

CompTIA is one of the largest nonprofit organizations that is not vendor owned or controlled. Most people think of CompTIA in terms of personal certifications for IT, but they have another component as well. They develop resources, offer guidance, and provide assistance to organizations on how to best utilize their IT from productivity, security, and emerging technologies. How they decide on how to do that is through committees, the committees are normally made up of excellent professionals either in a vendor, service delivery, or service consumption area. Once in a while they make a mistake, and that mistake was nominating me.

One of the committees that CompTIA has is The CompTIA Channel Development Advisory Council. It is made up of a group of the individuals who are recognized as the most influential leaders representing different organizations such as: hardware manufacturers, software publishers, services organizations, distributers, telecommunications companies, and technology solution providers.

The council meets on a quarterly basis to create tools and resources to help organizations throughout the channel to succeed. One of the things that we have been working on is to create buyer journey guides. Essentially these are creating best practices or best practice tools for organizations to succeed in doing that, both in terms of how they’re delivering value and how they are consuming the value. There are a lot of different sized organizations, some that are nationally known, that are involved in this. The council allows for these organizations to get together with people from small organizations like Simplex-IT. So, we get very differing views and that is good because everyone there is pushing for the same thing, creating successful environments for all of us.

Being a part of this council is a really cool way to give back, to make great contacts out there, and gain value by learning from other perspectives and seeing how other people play in the field.
