Keylogger…What Is It and What Does It Do?
Keyloggers are programs that capture everything you type. Passwords, credit card numbers, the webpages, answers to security questions – all by logging your keyboard strokes. The program is installed on your computer, usually through some form of spyware, and records what you type. All of this is then sent to the the bad guys use it to in a number of their bad guys ways.
But is there a time when a keylogger could be used for good? Yep. IT departments use programs like keyloggers for troubleshooting. Some companies started using them more with the increase in work from home to monitor employee activity. Ok, the term "for good" is up for debate here. Parents can use them to see what their kids are up to online. It wouldn't surprise me if some kids are using keyloggers to keep an eye on their parents...Just sayin'...
Remember keeping your anti-virus program up to date and running frequent scans will increase your odds of finding and removing keyloggers.
